Four main solutions were on the table: first, Russian gas based on the existing contract, which has remained unfulfilled by Gazprom since January 1, 2025; second, Chisinau's proposal to buy gas on the European market for Transnistria, an option rejected by Tiraspol as too expensive; third, Ukraine's proposal to supply coal to the Cuciurgan power plant to generate electricity for Moldova and Ukraine; and fourth, the EU's proposal granting 30 million euros in aid to Moldova to purchase gas for the Transnistrian region via Moldovagaz.

Following this discussion, authorities in Tiraspol ultimately chose to accept the financial aid offered by the European Union.
