Eugenia Gusilov, Director of ROEC, discussed several key energy topics during her appearance at Digi24 on Monday, April 6. Speaking with Anca Orheian, she addressed the premature rationalization scenario, pointing out that a soft, voluntary rationalization is more likely. At the individual and family level, decisions to reduce car trips are already visible. However, she emphasized that the state could use this crisis as an opportunity to improve fuel consumption efficiency and impose stricter rules for fuel settlement within the governmental and administrative apparatus.

Another major point of discussion was fuel prices. Romania has entered the group of countries paying the highest prices for fuel worldwide, a situation Eugenia Gusilov described as totally inappropriate and detached from the country's economic reality. She stressed that Romania does not belong in this group and must exit it immediately. The fiscal aggressiveness of the Romanian state may yield short term gains through deficit reduction, but it risks generating long term consequences, ranging from economic contraction to the rise of extremist forces.

She also issued an important warning for individuals and businesses building fuel reserves during this crisis: fuel must be stored under appropriate conditions at an optimal temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, in a dry place free of moisture and contact with water, to prevent spoilage.
