During an intervention on Monday, March 23, on Digi24 regarding the fuel market situation, Eugenia Gusilov addressed the question of who bears the responsibility for soaring prices. In Romania, gasoline reached 9 lei per liter and diesel 10 lei per liter. Romanians currently pay double per liter compared to Americans, where pump prices in March hit 4.5 lei per liter, a level considered worrisome overseas.

Under these conditions, the US state of Georgia suspended its fuel tax for 60 days. The Italian government attempted to keep prices below 1.9 euros per liter using flexible excise duties. In France, TotalEnergies voluntarily capped pump prices between March 13 and 31 at 1.99 euros per liter for gasoline and 2.09 euros per liter for diesel. In Spain, the government halved the VAT on fuel from 21% to 10%. Meanwhile, the Romanian government has consistently refused to adjust excise duties and VAT.
