On August 13, on TVR INFO, Eugenia Gusilov of ROEC addressed several key energy topics during an extended discussion.
Discussions covered oil prices, noting that they have remained within the forecasted summer range of 75 to 85 dollars per barrel, while analyzing potential increases driven by new tensions in the Middle East. The conversation also examined differing demand forecasts between OPEC and the IEA.
Gas prices were compared to the crisis peak of August 2022, alongside an assessment of Romanian electricity prices in July. The analysis highlighted that Romania's structural market problem, specifically a deficit in generation capacities, has not been resolved over the past two years. Additional megawatts are still urgently needed, and newly added generation and storage capacity will likely only begin to make a genuine difference around 2027.
Finally, the discussion touched upon the upcoming expiration of the price-capping scheme and the limited room for maneuver available to subsidize energy prices beyond April 1, 2025.
