On Friday, August 9, on Digi24, Eugenia Gusilov of ROEC discussed the countries most likely to be affected by the halting of gas transit through Ukraine. Austria, Hungary, and Slovakia stand out as the most vulnerable, ironically comprising the exact nations that oppose military aid to Kyiv.

For now, gas transit through Ukraine remains operational, even though the Sudzha gas metering station was taken over by the Ukrainian side and transited volumes dropped from 40 million to 37 million cubic meters per day. The current transit agreement expires at the end of the year, with no signs pointing toward renewal. Austria, Hungary, and Slovakia have had two years to secure alternative gas sources, and Kyiv owes no extension of Russian gas transit on its territory to countries undermining Ukraine's defense.

Regarding gas prices, a slight upward movement has been observed, but the increase remains insignificant compared to the dramatic price spikes of August 2022.
