On February 5, at B1 TV, Eugenia Gusilov addressed the embargo on Russian petroleum products. The analysis focused on the context and the major stake of making Russia pay for its aggression against Ukraine without destabilizing the oil market. The Western response consists of refusing Russian crude and petroleum products and replacing them with clean barrels from other sources. Consequently, the goal is not to remove Russian volumes from the world market, but to reconfigure destination flows. The expectation is that the EU embargo on petroleum products will hit Russia much harder than the crude oil embargo introduced on December 5. This time, neither China nor India will absorb these volumes, as both countries are primarily interested in importing raw materials to refine for the direct export of their own products.
