During a discussion at Euronews Romania, the ROEC representative addressed energy storage dynamics, noting that when nearly 630-680 MW is injected into the grid in the evening, the bulk originates not only from prosumer residential batteries but also from industrial storage projects. Residential batteries primarily reduce local network consumption.
Statistical discrepancies exist between Transelectrica data and the European ENTSO-E platform, which only reports large storage capacities exceeding 100 MW. Romania hosts numerous medium-scale storage units ranging between 10 and 60 MW, with many batteries rapidly deployed this year remaining absent from ENTSO-E statistics.
At the micro level, small and medium enterprises feel every cost shock. High import prices concentrated specifically during the evening peak hours between 19:00 and 22:00. In a complex hydrological context, regional dependence highlights that the energy sector can no longer function disconnected from environmental forecasts and climate risks. Relying on favorable water levels on the Danube to keep nuclear reactors operational reflects the costs of postponed projects, unfinished works, and a lack of long-term vision in national energy strategy.
