Romania is now experimenting with this tool, marking a first for the country. However, analysts note that this formula reflects the government's priority to protect state budget revenues rather than genuinely helping drivers. For instance, with the current diesel excise duty at 2.8 lei/liter, a maximum possible reduction of 25% would lower it to 2.1 lei/liter. Managing such a mechanism with bi-weekly recalculations is administratively burdensome compared to a simpler, fixed reduction. Nevertheless, adopting a relief measure is viewed as a better step than taking no action at all.
