An intervention regarding the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) project from Doicești took place on B1.ro during Gabriela Mihai's show. The analysis highlighted that the project is not cheap, that survival is possible without it, and that alternative uses exist for these funds. However, the core question is different: does Romania wish to be part of a new industry? Does the country want to build research, development, and innovation infrastructure focused on future themes?

The debate centers on whether Romania aims to integrate into the value chains of emerging industries and host cutting-edge projects, or if the state should restrict its focus solely to basic problems typical of the last century, such as water, sewage, and asphalt. Following a strict logic of what is affordable would have precluded NATO and EU membership. Therefore, if the project can be restructured to avoid excessive pressure on public funds by attracting international partners and external funding, it should not be discarded. Despite domestic political friction, the technology is sound, and the project should not be politicized. Instead, it could represent a strategic opportunity for Romania to position itself within a new branch of the nuclear industry.
