Eugenia Gusilov commented on Digi24 on April 4 regarding the unusual situation at some gas stations in Romania, where premium diesel ended up being sold cheaper (9.84 lei/liter) than standard diesel (10.51 lei/liter). This could have two explanations.

First, the commercial one: drivers who paid in advance for premium diesel reoriented themselves and refueled with the standard option. Consequently, those gas stations were left with more unsold premium diesel and lowered its price to encourage purchases.

Second, the technical one, related to the shelf life of petroleum products. Both diesel and gasoline are perishable products, with gasoline lasting 3-6 months and diesel 6-12 months. When stored under appropriate conditions, they can last up to 1 year for gasoline and 1.5-2 years for diesel. In this case, it may involve the accelerated sale of a premium assortment from an older batch nearing its expiration date.
