During a dialogue on March 30 at Digi24 with Cosmin Prelipceanu, following the government's announcement to adjust the excise tax on diesel, energy expert Eugenia Gusilov welcomed the step forward while expressing hope for a more substantial reduction of about 45%, rather than the modest 11% that was ultimately approved.

To put things in context, the excise duty on diesel in Romania stands at 2.8 lei per liter. A reduction of 45 percent would mean minus 1.26 lei per liter, 25 percent would mean minus 0.7 lei per liter, 15 percent would mean minus 0.42 lei per liter, and 5 percent would mean minus 0.14 lei per liter. Meanwhile, the voted 11 percent reduction amounts to just 0.3 lei per liter, a measure considered largely de minimis. She emphasized that the problem of excessive fuel taxation is far from being solved.
