During an appearance on B1.ro on Tuesday, March 17, Eugenia Gusilov discussed the current situation regarding fuel pump prices and government interventions.

The Romanian government has opted for targeted aid directed at two key sectors, transporters and farmers, which are critical for preventing cascading price increases in goods and services that could fuel inflation.

For transporters, the approved scheme involves reimbursing 85 bani for each liter of diesel purchased between April 1 and December 31, 2026. For farmers, proposals from the Ministry of Agriculture include excise duty and VAT exemptions to achieve a target price of around 4 lei per liter.

While these two measures are the primary focus, the government does not rule out additional actions if market conditions worsen. However, broad reductions in excise duties or VAT remain measures of last resort.
