On the morning of March 10, during the show Cine face legea on Știrile TVR, Eugenia Gusilov explained how the state can reduce fuel prices without resorting to price caps. By reducing the excise tax by half, from 3 lei per liter to 1.5 lei per liter, the state can bring prices back below 8 lei per liter. For example, at a price of 8.5 lei minus 1.5 lei, the cost drops to 7 lei per liter, and at 8.9 lei minus 1.5 lei, it drops to 7.4 lei per liter. Thus, the state continues to collect the excise tax at its minimum value while making the price bearable for drivers and the economy alike. Brussels does not need to mandate this. As the European Commissioner for Energy recently stated, member states have been given a very clear signal recommending the lowering of taxes, an action that can be taken immediately without waiting for new legislative proposals.
