Eugenia Gusilov commented for Euronews Romania on the new EU proposal to reduce gas consumption by 15% between August 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023, under the initiative Save gas for a safe winter. She discussed who will be affected and which sectors are exempt from rationalization, such as hospitals, schools, the food industry, defense, and refineries. While currently voluntary, the measure invites all consumers, including industry, households, public administration, and building owners, to contribute. Discussions also covered new solidarity mechanisms and the introduction of a European-level state of alert, which could trigger mandatory gas consumption reductions if activated.
